Images of the Human Immunodeficiency Virus, HIV, that causes AIDS or Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. I first started drawing HIV back in 1986 when I was working on an early public health education video. Then again in 1989 -1991 on a second and more ambitious HIV video. That was when I realised that viruses and viral life cycles could be painted like landscapes. In fact more like underwater scenes, since the intracellular milieu looked like a tropical fish tank, with the viruses and their components swimming through them like strange sea creatures. The images here are 3D models that still retain that aquarium look. Translucencies, ripples and bright notes give a coral reef look to these images. However, HIV Laevo Black is actually an old digital painting of mine from 1999. It is probably the most recognised HIV image in the world.
